GENDER STUDIES AND THEIR SIGNIFICANCE FOR UKRAINIAN JUDICIARY

The article is dedicated to significance of gender studies for Ukrainian Judiciary. Above all overs, it responds to the neсessity for judges to be ready for proper hearing of cases on gender discrimination and implementation of the gender equality principle foreseen in many international obligations of Ukraine, particularly in Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and its Optional Protocol, during the trial. As it is underlined, National School of Judges of Ukraine makes efforts to incorporate gender issues as integral part of judicial social context in training programmes for judges, if it is relevant. However, judiciary lacks research studies on gender issues. Statistics and opinion poll findings in the article confirm gender inequality, particularly in the employment sector. Taking into account specifics of the employments sector and acquaintance of judiciary establishment with the subject, it is emphasized on actuality of gender researches made for judges and conducting them within judiciary.

Key words: gender equality, discrimination, Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), Optional Protocol, obligation of the state, employment, gender segregation, gender stereotypes.
